Delivering your vehicle to the port

roll on/roll off vessel

Welcome to First Base Freight Ltd, we are an international shipping company collecting and delivering vehicles all over the world. We offer collection services in the UK or if you prefer you can deliver the vehicle yourself. If you are living overseas and importing your vehicle into the UK then we may not have the required contacts to collect the vehicle from you depending on the country you are shipping from, in which case you will need to deliver the vehicle to the port yourself or arrange a collection locally.

When shipping a vehicle overseas, the vehicle is taken to the port to be loaded onto a roll on/roll off (roro) vessel or a container vessel depending on how your vehicle is being shipped. To gain entry to the port, you will need a Shipping Note. This shows the port authorities where your vehicle is being shipped to, the vessel name, ETS, ETA as well as all the details for the vehicle being delivered. Upon booking with us, a confirmation email will be sent to you requesting a copy of the following documentation:

  • Registration document for the vehicle (V5C)
  • Photo page of your passport
  • Bill of sale for the vehicle

Collection/Delivery

If you have requested for us to collect the vehicle by an insured trade plate driver then we will also require a valid MOT for the vehicle and to make sure that the vehicle is in a good running condition otherwise the driver may refuse to collection if the vehicle is unsafe to drive and you will be billed for a failed collection. If you change your mind regarding having your vehicle collected then you will need to inform us as soon as possible before 12:00 pm the day before the collection otherwise an abort fee will apply.

If your vehicle is unsafe to drive or not road legal then we also offer a road transporter service in which we can collect the vehicle from you on a vehicle transporter. This may also work out cheaper if the vehicle you are shipping has a long way to travel to reach the port.

If your vehicle is road legal and safe to drive then you may consider driving the vehicle to the port yourself and using public transport to get back. Be sure to look at how far you have to travel and how much the travel fair is going to cost you, then include the hours it is going to take you and compare that to paying for a collection. You may find the total figure is not so different and for the sake of a few extra pounds, the vehicle will be delivered for you by a professional trade plate driver meaning you can carry on with the rest of your day.

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog, if you have any further questions then please feel free to contact us at First Base Freight.
