Shipping your vehicle to Nigeria

Here at First Base Freight we offer safe, secure and very cost effective car shipping to Lagos.  When shipping your vehicle to Nigeria – we offer two shipping services to Lagos; either roll on/roll off or by container shipment.

Before you decide to ship your vehicle over to Nigeria, you must first make sure that your vehicle will be accepted by the custom authorities. Nigeria does not allow the importation of cars over 15 years old; this is based from the date of registration for the vehicle.

Roll on/Roll off vehicle shipping is by far the simplest and cheapest method of car shipment when shipping to the port of Tin Can Island in Lagos.  The Roll on/Roll off vessels sails from the port of Tilbury every week with a transit time of approximately 15 days on the water.

Container shipping does tend to be the more expensive option, however when shipping your vehicle by container to Lagos, it does gain some added security as it is shipped in its very own dedicated 20ft or 40ft container.  The vehicle is secured using ratchet straps and chocks to stabilize the vehicle whilst in transit.  The doors are locked – a unique tamper proof seal is attached to the doors to add extra security. When shipping a vehicle inside a container to Lagos, you can also load personal items, such as clothes and tools etc.. inside the vehicle only.  This option is usually chosen if you are trying to ship a vehicle of a much higher value.

When shipping your vehicle to Nigeria you will be required to obtain copies of some very important documentation for both the shipping company and for the port of destination, these include:

  • V5C (registration document)
  • Photo page of your passport
  • Photo page of your consignees passport
  • Purchase/Sales Invoice for the vehicle
  • Bill of Lading (We will send this to you, once the vehicle has been shipped)
  • Customs Export Declaration
  • MOT certificate (only required if we are collecting the vehicle for you)
