Car Shipping can be a fairly scary experience if you have never done it before, well now help is at hand every step of the way to make your vehicle shipping even easier.

First Base Freight Ltd will take you through the whole process and hold your hand so that you never feel overwhelmed when shipping your car overseas. It needn’t be a difficult process providing you have followed a few simple rules.

The first thing to do is to get a rate from us so you know exactly how much it is going to cost you to get your vehicle to the port of arrival. The form takes approximately 30 seconds to complete. We do not always require dimensions providing you can tell us the make and model of the vehicle.

Once you are happy with the price you will then need to find out how much it will cost to clear your vehicle through customs and how much it will cost in duties and taxes once the vehicle has arrived at your chosen port. (if your chosen country is not listed then go to http://www.wcoomd.org/customwebsites/?lid=1).

Or you can ask a member of our team who will be able to advise the Agents details and you will be able to ask them directly. The choice is yours, we’re here to help!

Once you are happy and want to book a shipment, there is a simple form to complete and takes approximately 2 minutes. You will then receive a confirmation email that your booking has been received, you will then be asked to provide documentation to assist with the booking of your vehicle on to the vessel.

The paperwork required is as follows: (This can either be faxed or scanned and emailed to us) A copy of the V5 (log book), a copy of your photo page of the passport, a copy of the MOT certificate (this is only required if we are collecting your vehicle by a fully insured Plate Driver) AND lastly a copy of the Bill of Sale (i.e. invoice) if the V5 is not in your name.

An invoice would then be sent to you for payment, once payment had been received you will be sent a copy of the ‘Shipping Note’ and if your delivering the vehicle to the port yourself a copy of ‘The Delivery Note’ also. You will be provided with full details of your shipment to include the Vessel name that your vehicle is sailing on, the date that the vessel sets sail and the estimated date of arrival to your chosen port.

Unless specified at the point of booking we would supply our Agent’s details who will be able to assist and advise you for when your vehicle arrives at the point of arrival. This information is contained within the ‘Bill of Lading’, a copy in most cases will be emailed to you in advance of arrival unless Originals have been requested. Most countries accept copies so as to Express Release the cargo upon arrival.

Once you have paid any monies due to the Agent your vehicle will be released to you immediately. In order to collect your vehicle you will need to take photographic identification with you to the port, a photo passport or a photo driving license is sufficient along with the copy of the Bill of Lading. You are now in possession of your well travelled vehicle!
