Import Vehicle Restrictions in Hong Kong

When shipping vehicles to Hong Kong, you will need to meet the China’s emission and noise regulations. However, there are two exemptions for petrol cars but there are no exemptions for diesel engine vehicles. You are also advised to obtain approval from the Environmental Protection Department before shipping any vehicle in to Hong Kong.

  • Classic vehicles – Vehicles that have been manufactured over 20 years prior to the importation (The vehicles must have the same engine fitted as it did when manufactured and be able to run on unleaded petrol).
  • Personal Imports – Personal imports are vehicles which have been owned and used in the UK or overseas for at least six months prior to their shipment to Hong Kong – this is only allowed once every five years.

The minimum requirement for supporting documentation is:
