Pallet Shipping from the UK
Most freight companies treat pallet shipping as a box-ticking exercise. A collection, a transit, a delivery — job done. At Ship Cars Ltd , we look at it differently. Whether you’re sending a single pallet of automotive parts to a client in Dubai, a full consignment of goods to a warehouse in Melbourne, or industrial equipment to a buyer in New York, we treat every pallet shipment with the same level of care and planning we give every vehicle we move.
We are primarily known as a vehicle shipping specialist, but pallet freight sits naturally alongside that. Many of our regular customers ship vehicle components, spare parts, tools, and commercial goods internationally — and they trust us to handle that freight with the same reliability and transparency they expect from their car shipping. That’s exactly what we deliver.
What Is Pallet Shipping?

A pallet is a flat, structured platform — typically made from heat-treated timber — that allows goods to be stacked, shrink-wrapped, and moved efficiently by forklift or pallet truck. Palletising your cargo is the most widely used method for shipping commercial and industrial goods across the UK and internationally, because it protects goods during transit, reduces handling damage, and makes loading and unloading significantly faster and more predictable. Container Shipping
There are several standard pallet sizes in common use in the UK and internationally:
- Quarter Pallet — approximately 1.2m x 1.2m x 0.6m, up to 150kg
- Half Pallet — approximately 1.2m x 1.2m x 1.1m, up to 600kg
- Full Pallet — approximately 1.2m x 1.2m x 2.2m, up to 1,200kg
- Euro Pallet — 1.2m x 0.8m — widely accepted across European and international freight networks
- Oversized Pallet — for out-of-gauge freight, available on dedicated services up to 3.2m x 2.1m
If you’re unsure which pallet size or configuration is appropriate for your cargo, our team will advise. Accurate dimensions and weight at the point of enquiry are important — they directly affect the freight rate, the mode of transport, and the handling requirements at both ends of the journey. How We Ship Pallets Internationally
At Shipcars.co.uk, we offer three primary modes for international pallet shipping from the UK. The right choice depends on your destination, your cargo volume, your timeline, and your budget.
Sea Freight — LCL and FCL
Sea freight is the most cost-effective method for shipping heavy or bulky pallets internationally, and it’s where the majority of our international pallet movements take place.
LCL — Less than Container Load is our shared container service for pallet shipments. If your consignment doesn’t fill an entire container, we consolidate your pallets with other cargo heading to the same destination. You pay only for the container space your freight actually occupies, measured in cubic metres (CBM). This is the most popular option for small to medium-volume shipments, and it’s particularly well-suited for regular export customers who ship on a monthly basis without needing exclusive container space.
FCL — Full Container Load gives your pallets exclusive use of a 20ft or 40ft container, sealed from the UK loading depot to the destination port. FCL is typically more economical once your shipment exceeds approximately 13–15 CBM, and it offers fewer handling points, faster transit, and significantly reduced risk of damage compared to shared container services. It’s also the preferred option when you’re shipping fragile, high-value, or sensitive goods.
Real-world example: A Birmingham-based automotive parts supplier shipped six pallets of engine components to Jebel Ali port in Dubai via LCL sea freight. Pallets were collected from their warehouse in the West Midlands, consolidated at Felixstowe, and arrived at the Dubai destination warehouse within 28 days of collection — including customs clearance. The customer has since moved to a monthly standing arrangement.
Road Freight — UK and Europe

For European pallet shipments, road freight is often the fastest and most practical choice. We operate pallet collections across the UK — from Scotland to the south coast . car shipping services — with regular consolidated road freight services to European destinations. Transit times for European road freight typically range from 2 to 7 working days, depending on the destination country and service level selected.
For urgent European consignments, premium and express road freight options are available. Our team will always present the most suitable options at the point of enquiry, rather than defaulting to the cheapest rate at the expense of your delivery timeline.
Air Freight — When Speed Is Non-Negotiable
When a customer needs pallets to arrive within days rather than weeks, air freight is the answer. We arrange international air freight for pallet shipments to virtually every major destination worldwide. Air freight is the right choice when:
- Your goods are time-critical or perishable
- The value of the cargo makes a delayed delivery commercially damaging
- Your destination doesn’t have a practical sea freight schedule
- You’re shipping a lower-weight consignment where the air freight premium is justifiable
Typical international air freight transit times range from 1 to 7 working days, depending on the destination and routing.
Customer example: A Manchester-based manufacturer shipped two pallets of precision components to a production facility in Toronto, Canada, via air freight. The shipment was collected on a Monday and was cleared and delivered to the Canadian facility by the following Thursday — a total door-to-door transit of just over three days. also read our blog : How to Avoid Damage with International Shipping

A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Book

ISPM-15 Compliance: All international pallet shipments must use ISPM-15 certified heat-treated timber pallets. This is a global biosecurity requirement designed to prevent the spread of wood pests across international borders. Non-compliant pallets can be rejected at the destination port, causing delays and additional costs. If you’re unsure whether your pallets are certified, our team can advise on compliant packaging options before collection.
Packing Standards: Goods must be securely stacked, shrink-wrapped, and — where appropriate — strapped to prevent any movement during transit. For sea freight in particular, packing must be robust enough to withstand longer transit periods and multiple handling points at both origin and destination.
Customs Documentation: All international pallet shipments require accurate export documentation, including a commercial invoice, packing list, commodity codes (HS codes), and an EORI number for commercial shipments. We guide every customer through the documentation requirements for their specific destination — nothing is left to chance.
Insurance: Carrier liability for lost or damaged freight is limited under international transport conventions and is almost always insufficient to cover the actual value of your goods. We strongly recommend cargo insurance for all international pallet shipments, and we’ll always advise on appropriate coverage at the point of booking.
